We have new goats on the farm. I recently bought two darling tri colored Nigerian doelings from a woman near Jackson, MI. They are sisters who were a set of three babies and she was keeping the smallest of them. One of the girls has blue eyes and the other, more petite girl has brown eyes. They are both just beautiful Nigerians with ombre coloring cascading down their backs. Dixie, the blue eyed doe is more of a grey with black and white markings, and Elsa is more of a brown, with black and white markings. They will be great breeders to pair up with our apricot blue eyed buck, Ranger, in the Fall. And our little Mini Silky Fainting buckling sold to a wonderful family from Chelsea, he will be going home next week. And I am adding a new Mini Silky doeling to the group in a few weeks out of Mulberry Meadows. She is a tri and looks a lot like our stunning wether, Striker, so I am hoping her coat will be just as long and silky as his when she is full grown. I am hoping to breed all three Nigerians does and both Silky does next year, so we will have lots of bouncing baby goats running around the farm and up for sale.
We are also adding some Guinea keets to the farm and a trio of Indian Runner ducks. I have always loved Guineas for their unusual looks and they are good at eating ticks and sounding the alarm when predators are nearby. We also love the funny upright stance that Indian Runners have and since they are a smaller breed of duck, they are easier to keep and they are decent layers too.
Photos to follow as soon as the new residents arrive.
